These women come into the United States looking for improved employment or educational opportunities, making them much more vulnerable to coercion and false job opportunities offered by traffickers. Additionally, many immigrant women do not understand their rights, or are faced with threats of deportation.

Lucy Spalluto, MD, MPH, left, worked with Angelica Deaton, a community health worker, to engage Hispanic/Latina women in mammography screening services. And notably, nearly half of black women (48%) and Latinas (47%) report having been mistaken for administrative or custodial staff, an experience far less common for white (32%) and Asian-American (23%) women scientists. We conducted in-depth interviews with 60 female scientists and surveyed 557 female scientists, both with help from the Association for Women in Science. These studies provide an important picture of how gender bias plays out in everyday workplace interactions.
We trained 4 Latina health educators from the Miami–Dade County Health Department to deliver AMIGAS. The 3-day training provided a framework for delivering AMIGAS to Latina women at risk for HIV and aimed to enhance the health educators’ HIV-related knowledge and skills for delivery of AMIGAS with fidelity to the intervention curriculum. Trainees observed demonstrations of each AMIGAS activity, participated in group discussions and role-playing activities, and practiced teaching activities to demonstrate their knowledge of the curriculum and to experience delivering the intervention in a group setting. We assigned participants to the study conditions after the baseline assessment with concealment-of-allocation procedures, defined by protocol and compliant with published recommendations.19 Before enrollment, an investigator used a random-numbers table to generate the allocation sequence.

Working with Nueva Vida and the Capital Breast Care Center, trusted community partners of patient navigators, the women who watched the film were then directed to free genetic counseling services in Washington, DC, for women at high risk of hereditary breast and ovarian cancer. They also interviewed 20 health care providers, including social workers, patient navigators and genetic counselors, to develop key messages around genetic counseling to include in the video. That means Latinas had to work all of 2018 and until this day in 2019 to catch up with what white men were paid in 2018 alone.
Much of this trafficking is hard to detect, as it is not usually visible to the public or governmental eye. Currently, there are limited resources for Latina immigrants in the United States. This autonomy is particularly important considering some researchers believe that Latinas may be particularly vulnerable to domestic violence issues. These domestic abuse struggles result from a combination of violent partners and bureaucratic complications of the US immigration system. Domestic issues among immigrants are potentially exacerbated by language barriers, economic dependence, low levels of education and income, poor knowledge of services, undocumented status, lack of a support system, and the immigration experience in general. According to the Rutgers School of Social Work, around 17% of Latina immigrants are victims of Domestic Violence. This violence can manifest in different ways, and is often difficult to diagnose when it the result of verbal threats rather than physical abuse.
